Knee Arthritis in Fort Myers, FL

Knee pain can change how you move through everyday life. At Ameglio Orthopedics, we care for those living with arthritis in the knee by offering advanced orthopedic support tailored to each person. Knee arthritis is a condition that causes inflammation in the knee joint, leading to pain, swelling, and stiffness. It can affect daily movement and make even simple tasks feel difficult. The most common type of arthritis in the knee is osteoarthritis, a wear-and-tear condition that slowly breaks down the cartilage in your joint. The cartilage usually cushions the bones and allows the knee to bend and straighten smoothly. As the cartilage wears away, bones rub together and cause pain. Knee osteoarthritis often develops over time, especially in people over 50, but younger adults with joint injuries may experience it, too. Other forms of knee arthritis include rheumatoid arthritis and post-traumatic arthritis, which can also damage the joint and affect mobility. Without proper care, daily activities can become harder. If knee pain limits your movements, schedule a consultation with our staff in Fort Myers, FL to explore solutions.

Knee arthritis treatment depends on your symptoms and how much the joint is affected. Some patients feel better with small changes. Others may need surgical care for long-term results. The goal is always to ease pain, improve movement, and support joint health. Knee arthritis treatment may include:

  • Physical therapy to strengthen muscles and improve joint support
  • Anti-inflammatory medications to reduce inflammation in the knee
  • Steroid or hyaluronic acid injections for pain relief
  • Activity changes to limit stress on the joint
  • Weight loss to take pressure off the knee
  • Assistive devices, like braces or walking aids
  • Minimally invasive procedures or full joint replacement for severe cases

Arthritis in the knee symptoms vary, but many describe it as a deep, persistent ache. The discomfort often worsens with activity or after sitting too long. Common signs include:

  • Pain during or after activity
  • Swelling around the joint
  • Stiffness, especially in the morning or after sitting
  • Grinding or popping sounds during movement
  • Reduced range of motion
  • Tenderness when pressing on the joint
  • A feeling of the knee "giving out"
  • Difficulty walking, climbing stairs, or getting up from a chair

This place is amazing. I’ve had four surgeries here and it feels like home to me. Right from the beginning you are greeted with compassion and respect. Dr. Ameglio listens like no other doctor I’ve ever seen. I saw multiple specialists and within minutes Dr. Ameglio knew where my pain originated. Surgery was always the last resort. However, when surgery was needed, the process was smooth and efficient. Surgery at Colonial Surgical is the same thing. You are treated with compassion and respect. They treat you like family. I have referred friends to Dr. Ameglio with the promise he will listen. He always surpasses everyone’s expectations. If you are in pain and need someone to really listen, call and make your appointment today.

My husband had the I-Fuse procedure 2 weeks ago. He is already 90% pain free. Prior to the surgery,he could not move without intense pain in his lower back. This is the second surgery he had had with Dr. Ameglio…the first for a broken clavicle, which healed beautifully. The I-Fuse was an outpatient procedure, followed up with home heath for 6 visits. We would highly recommend Dr. Ameglio with his calm professional manner.

Dr Peter Ameglio, you do such a wonderful service with this Super Path hip replacement method, if I had my druthers, you'd be paid in advance! I can not express my appreciation to you enough! I have problems with my muscles that no one can seem to figure out. If I had to have my hip done the conventional way with my muscles cut through, it would be a nightmare of a recovery. Truly, I want to get recovered soonly and have you do the other side as soon as possible. I don't want to take any chances that you retire, move, Medicare/Medicaid DC's paying for it, or any other reason comes in the way of you being able to perform your magic! When I had my last knee replacement, on my right knee, it was awful! I did the exercises faithfully. The PT fellow would come to my house, we would give my knee a work out, & by the time he would walk from the house to his car in the driveway, my knee would already have tightened back up. I had to go back into the hospital, they had to snap it and break all the scar tissue, and I had to start all over again. If it wasn't for the (painful) massage therapy, I don't know if I would have had a bendable knee after that replacement. My muscles just clench up and are stubborn to relax. I've had problems with them since I was a kid. They said they were growing pains & I would grow out of them. Mom would rub my legs many nights with mentholated rubbing alcohol while I just cried. They never went away. I even have to take a muscle relaxer to try to sleep at night because my back, legs, & feet will cramp up & spasm from laying there & keep me from getting much sleep. I had about a week of severe cramping in my surgery leg, but that was it. So, when I say I appreciate you and the magic you do with this Super Path hip replacement method, perhaps you can grasp the gravity in which I mean it! I'm not just tooting your horn, or doing a song & dance for you, I sincerely mean it. It literally spares me a walk thru hell for recovery!!! This recovery has been a blessing! Yes, I've had pain, but that's to be expected, and it hasn't been unmanageable! It's been a walk in the park compared to ANY surgery I've ever had before!!! Thank you so much for having the desire to learn this method! You, obviously, stand out above all the others in your field, in this geographical area! Seriously, Doc, I am grateful! I will recommend you to anyone that I hear about that is thinking about a hip replacement or needing one done! You are HANDS DOWN, the TOP SURGEON, the CREAM OF THE CROP, the BEST IN YOUR FIELD, THE ONLY ONE WORTH CHOOSING! There is none that can compete or hold a candle to you!!!! In my mind, you are THE ONLY SURGEON!!! Oh, and MUCH THANKS TO ANNA too. Thank you Anna for fielding all of my phone calls and questions. You were an integral part in making my recovery run smoothly! I appreciate all of your help, kindness & patience! You were a 🍑 peach 🍑! Bless you!

I did not come to FL for 3 months and plan to get a total hip replacement, but I was in pain and things fell in place and I was able to get into Dr. Ameglio for an appt. very quickly. I couldn't be happier with my timely surgery and before my 4 week post op I am all healed and able to do what I want. With the excellent physical therapy I got from Shawn Troyer pre op, I was able to go into surgery well prepared. They said my fast recovery was from doing phy therapy ahead of time and doing all the phy therapy after. I thank you for making this a great experience for me and having me ready to go when we leave in a couple days for WI..God bless you! Diane Tappa
